Ann Wilson reported on the Environmentally Sensitive Lands Funding Referendum to be voted on

at the August 2008 primary. This is not a new tax but rather the continuation of an existing tax.

A few facts:

The program began in 1988 and was re-approved in 2002

Successful acquisitions include:  Princess Place Preserve, Bings Landing, Haw Creek

Preserve, River to Sea Preserve, Shell Bluff, Bulls Creek Camp, Palm Coast Linear Park, Long

Creek’s Landing and others

On August 26th, voters will be asked to renew this fund by approving a tax of 0.25 mills

which means a house assessed at $200,000. would pay $3.13 per month to continue the ESL program

A motion was made to support the referendum.  It was unanimously passed.

Jim Ulsamer reported on the Library Referendum, also to be voted on at the August 2008 elections.

A few facts: Voters are asked to approve a 0.25 mill on the tax bill at a cost of $3.13 per month,

if approved this would create $2.6 million in the first year and $39 million over 15 years

Existing facilities are too small to serve the current population

We are unable to meet 5 out of 6 of the core standards for public libraries

            Libraries serve everyone
